12.25.05: Trip to the Philippines. This is the musician's trip to the Philippines during Christmas of 2005 to research on Here Lies Love, a musical based on Imelda. Great travelogue: Manila, Ilocos and Leyte. Very sympathetic and well informed. Not to be missed. Look for it filed under travel.

DCI stands for Development Communications International: Development; alluding to pushing forward and progressing; Communications; to relay information effectively in various formats & media: and International, for the world. This site is a personal array of images, articles, links, and projects, spurned from travels and living in developing countries. There is a great source of inspiration to me in countries of the southern hemisphere, as well as great challenges. This site is a personal testament to the people of those countries, the cultures, their environment as well as their hope for a better future.

Sixteen months around the world (or until money runs out, whichever comes first). A travel blog by Filipino American Erik Trinidad who did an around the world travel (backpack) including a spending a substantial amount of time in the Philippines. I discovered this site at the end of the trip (culminating in a big bash in New York, March 5, 2005), too bad, because his day-to-day journal/blog is such a compelling read. Makes you want to do your own round the world travel to ... or like me ... vicariously travel with him.

After 10 years in the Internet industry, veteran web designer Kelly Hale and developer Mike Schimanowsky (Shim) have sold their worldly belongings, bid farewell to friends and family, packed a laptop and traded in the daily 9-5 for a life of nomadic freelancing and travel.
Our first stop? The Philippines, where begins our search for the idyllic stretch of sandy beach… complete with WiFi connection.
Here we hope to relate our travels and post pictures for friends and family, and to provide some insight into the challenges and rewards of our journey.

This travelogue on the Philippines may offend you if you should be either
a) extremely politically correct;
b) boring; c) from the Philippines. I really liked the Philippines, and had a great time there, but I also mention the things I did not like. The latter include Manila, a German woman who looked like a horse + Filipina prostitutes and their customers.

I was born in the Philippines and emigrated to the U.S. when I was 7 years old. In 1989, I went back to visit for the first time after 16 years. I've been going back ever since. My connection with the Philippines gets stronger with each visit trying to see different areas of the Philippines. It's hard not feel connected when I meet people with so much warmth and generosity. Plus the mangoes are so sweet!
