Note: Before everything else, there was BANs. This is one of the earliest accommodations on Boracay. Mang Ome used to be the caretaker of the Aguirre's house back in 1977 and then decided to build his own place in the late 70s. By 1980, he converted his own house to accommodate 'travelers' with accommodation for tents in his yard. By 1983, he built several cottages on his property. When I came back in 1987, I stayed at his house because the cottages were fully booked. By 1998, I visited again, and this time they already were a little bit more upscale but still kept the spacious walkways in between the cottages.
