PinoyPress started as a discussion group on Egroups.com (now Yahoogroups) around 1998. It's not good to be a journaist in the Philippines where they are killed with impunity. The latest is the assassination of Doc Gerry Ortega, a veterinarian, environmentalist, radio personality and all-around good guy based in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. I knew Gerry for a brief week in his native province back in the mid-80s when he was still a student. He was a kind and fun-loving kid who guided us around his province while we were doing veterinary extension work. RIP, Gerry and my condolences to your loving wife, my Rodeo Club sis, Patty.
