The band's music has been described as a "sterling cross between 80s new wave and 90s alternative sensibilities" (Pulp Issue #14, April 2001). Listening to the interplay of front man Orven "Bisoy" Enoveso's baritone and Ian Zafra's textured guitar riffs amid a backdrop of pulsating drums and thumping bass line, the influences are actually wider, running the gamut of bands that include The Doors, The Smiths, The Smithereens, The Stone Roses, New Order, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Cure, and Weezer, among others. Filtering these influences, the Insects have weaved their own brand of, what bassist Boobop Nunez calls, "Sheila-sh*t".
