The Bukidnons are one of the traditionalistic ethnic groups in the southern Philippines. They inhabit the northeastern part of Mindanao, the second largest island of the archipelago. The term “Bukidnon” (mountain dweller) was derived from the Cebuano language but nowadays, it is accepted by most members of the ethnic group referred to.

The island of Cebu is politically divided into local government units consisting of 47 municipalities which compose the province of Cebu, 4 component cities and 2 highly urbanized cities. All the population centers of these towns and cities are situated along the coastline, with Cebu City, one of the oldest cities in the Philippines at the eastern mid-point section of the the island. The cities and municipalities are further subdivided into barangays - the smallest government unit. The number of barangays in each town or city varies according to land area as well as population of the town/city. As of compilation, Cebu has a total of 1,202 barangays.
