Sultan Kudarat is one of the 27 municipalities of the Province of Maguindanao with a total land area of 45,908 hectares and an estimated population of 94,066 for the year 2004. It is situated north of Cotabato City having a geographical coordinate of 124°25’ east longitudes and 7°20’ north latitude. The Municipality is bounded on the north by Sultan Mastura Municipality; on the northeast, by Buldon Municipality; on the east, by Pigcawayan Municipality; on the southeast, by Municipality of Kabuntalan; on the south and southwest, by Cotabato City; on the west, by Illana Bay.

- Municipality of Tampakan
Tampakan was once a barangay of the municipality of Tupi, South Cotabato. It was a forested area inhabited by the natives called B’laans. The place by that time was still diverse in terms of flora and fauna. Through years of dedication and hard work Tamfaken was changed to Tampakan and became a municipality in the Province of South Cotabato, by virtue of Republic Act No.5661 as approved in the House of Senate and House of Representatives on June 21, 1969.

- Municipality of Tantangan
Long before the Spanish occupation in the Philippines, the area where the municipality of Tantangan is to be carved out is already populated. The area is located at the mouth of a big river called LUAYAN and empties its water into a very big lake. The inhabitants during those times were the Muslims, which are traced to the leadership of Sultan Kudarat who occupied the lakeshores and the B'laans who thrived into the mountainous hinterlands. As such, the leaders of the different "balangays" along the lake shores were called by their federal leader based in Luayan through the use of Kulitangtangan, a bell so enormous its ringing could be heard in quite a distance. This device latter served as the basis and origin of the name of the place as Tangtangan by the first Ilocano settlers from Luzon, which, in later years refined into Tantangan. As the years went by, the big lake shrunk and what remained is now the Buluan Lake - Tantangan, South Cotabato.

Tinglayan is located in the Northern part of Kalinga. It is bounded with beautiful mountain ranges. It is here where you can find Mt. Mating-oy or popularly known as the "Sleeping Beauty." Tubajon is situated in the northeastern part of the Island of Dinagat. An open sea connected to the Pacific Ocean, west by the Surigao Strait, north by the Municipsality of Libjo, bound it in the east. It has an area 11.479.11 of hectares. Initao is the oldest municipality in the western part of Misamis Oriental. It is the mother town of the municipalities of Libertad, Naawan, Manticao and Lugait. There was no data nor historical record as to its creation but it functioned date back during the Spanish regime. Based on the book “Symbols of the State” published by the Bureau of Local Government of the Department of Local Government and Community Development, the province of Misamis Oriental was created by virtue of Act 2711 dated March 10, 1917. The municipality of Initao was one of the municipalities under its political and administrative jurisdiction. Thus, the date of official recognition of this municipality is the same date when the province of Misamis Oriental was officially created. Another is that Initao has a record as to its population in 1903 as published by the National Statistics Office.

Along the west coast of Surigao del Norte lies the Municipality of Malimono with a distance of 32 kilometers from the City. It is bounded on the north by the municipality of San Francisco, on the west by Bohol Sea, on the south by the municipality of Jabonga, Agusan del Norte and on the east by the municipalities of Sison and Mainit.
The general terrain of the area is gently sloping to steeply sloping from the lowlands along the coast going to the eastern direction, which are all mountainous and thus situate 12 barangays along the coast, one of the upland and the other one is located at the foot of Can-agtiw Mountain - Malimono, Surigao del Norte.

The Spaniard asked the folk in Spanish as to the name of the place. The folk unable to perceive the Spanish language answered “bocal bocal” for he discerned that the Spaniard was asking about the bubbling spring. Bocal-bocal was a tongue twister to the Spaniard hence Moalboal.

It was said that during the Spanish Regime, a group of Jesuit missionaries happed to be assigned at Sapao, now called the Municipality of Sta. Munica. They were fascinated with the vast array of blooming Talisay tress in the place where the Municipality of San Benito presently stands. Their enchantment made them to name the place "Talisay." After exploring the place and observing the cultural behavior of the people, a chapel was built bearing the relic of Saint Benedict. After a couple of years, Talisay was changed to San Benito in honor of Saint Benedict, its patron saint. Not until 1971, however, that San Benito became a town in Surigao del Norte.
