  • Municipality of Columbio
efore the arrival of Spaniards and subsequent settlers, the indigenous traditions of the cultural minorities were established over the centuries, out of choice or necessity, the individual identities of these various people obscured by widespread displacement, alienation of property and loss of life. The people in the lowlands were eventually conquered by both sword and cross, while the highlanders and the lowland run away and fled into the mountains, continue to hang on tenaciously to their traditional values and live-honored forms of everyday life. Columbio was once dominated by B'laan tribes who gave name to the place derived from the word " Colon " and " Biao " which means " cogon " and " tree " respectively Colonbiao, that was once a wilderness with its rolling hills and plateaus, is more than just concrete roads and rice fields today. Waves of settlers from Luzon and Visayas came to claim and clear the virgin lands of Colonbiao and Maguindanaons who once dominated the land. Christians or Kristiyanos, brought new ways, new dialects, and new forms of living that led to changes that provided opportunities and closer ties among the Columbians in Sultan Kudarat.

  • Municipality of Esperanza
ESPERANZA is a Spanish word meaning HOPE, in the local dialect, it means Pag - asa or Pag – laum. It is believed that the first baby born in the first settled area in the wildness of Dulawan was a baby girl whom the early settlers called Esperanza with the anticipation that with the birth of child, the name alone could inspire the coming in of peace, unity and prosperity to the settlers. In 1952, a group of Christian settlers established a settlement in Villamor within the then municipal district of Dulawan now presently known as barangay Villamor of Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat province.
