Don't hate me because I'm thin. Growing up, I was so scrawny it always made me cry. People thought I was a boy. Needless to say, high school was very awkward. In college, I slowly started to fill out. Wasn’t much but this made me happy.
Then I worked in hotel club floors in Manila and overseas. After several years, I decided to write. Somehow I found myself writing about food. I started with a Manila-based trade magazine in 2003, then my work slowly made it to the pages of national and foreign publications. This eventually led me to communications related work, with personal clients having to do, in one way or the other, with food production.

I come from a family who loves cooking and eating. I may not be that much of a great cook, but I could say that I can cook good food as well. A few months ago, I started documenting my food trips for my travel blog, and since I have quite enough to start a food blog, might as well put all those food trips in one location. Thus, a food blog is born,

I treat cooking as a magic. In every recipe, there is a secret trick. Some recipes are easy and some are difficult. The goal is to entertain and to just have fun! After 14 years of cooking, I realized that the main ingredient is love for cooking.

t happened at random. The sight of a photograph brought on a rush of memories; of a seaside picnic under the swaying palms and the unforgettable delicacy that is kinilaw. It lingers in the Filipino's mind like a dream, almost within reach but just barely.
To paraphrase Shakespeare, kinilaw.com is a site for all to "reminisce perchance to drool. " Maybe, in levity (and possible serious dissection) the pangs of hunger and loneliness will somehow be assuaged.

My daily food adventures. "Mangan Tila!" in Pangasinan language (Pangasinense) means Let's It! I am not from Pangasinan. My wife is. I've chosen Mangan Tila! as blog title because it sounds sweet. It reminds me of my wife, but not because she's sweet. It's because she's from Pangasinan, remember? :-)

Market Manila is one well-travleled management consultant's way of helping two groups of people: new arrivals and interested locals who, like him/her, had no clue where to find ingredients, what local produce existed, where to get specialty food items, etc.; and secondly, farmers, market vendors, retailers, who had the foresight to seek out the best the Philippines has to offer and take the risk of selling these to nutcases like him/herself. Market Manila is also his/her reason to overspend and overbuy every time he/she is in a market or food store with the excuse that it is just part of his/her "research budget."
