  • Biodiversity Hotspots
Conservation International (CI) focuses its efforts on 25 biologically rich areas around the world under significant threat of destruction. The remaining natural habitat in these biodiversity hotspots amounts to just 1.4 percent of the land surface of the planet, yet supports nearly 60 percent of the world's plant, bird, mammal, reptile, and amphibian species. Includes the Philippines - Washington DC.

  • Negros Interior Biodiversity Expedition
In April 2009, the Negros Interior Biodiversity Expedition (NIBE) plans to undertake the first biological exploration of the interior of the North Negros Natural Park, a unique area not scientifically explored to date.

The North Negros Natural Park (NNNP) is a biodiversity hotspot of great importance, it's rare and endemic species under threat from illegal logging, hunting, pet trade collection and unauthorised land use.

Rated as one of the top ten most important areas of forest in the world, it is home to a multitude of rare and endemic species, whilst also playing a vital role in watershed protection for surrounding communities.

The heart of the park, known as the 'Interior' has never been scientifically explored due to the difficulty of the terrain. In April 2009, a joint team of Filipino and British specialists will attempt a 'world first' and spend three weeks gaining access to the interior to conduct the first rapid biodiversity assessment.

  • Shutterbirds
Singaporean Ivor Lee's personal website to document birds of Southeast Asia in the form of photography. "It serves to remind us how fragile our environment is. Birds are the best indicators of how our environment is coping with the land development activities. The extinction of almost all modern day birds is due to loss of their habitats. Our fear is that more will become extinct in years to come. Our only hope is to see an increased number of people aware of this inevitable fate of extinction and will participate in all forms of conservation activities to preserve them." The Philippine bird photos in the site are just gorgeous.
