The International Maritime Organization (IMO), consistent with the UN’s call for wider participation of women in various sectors, launched the "Women in Maritime" program. IMO supported the establishment of the Pacific Women in Maritime Association (PACWIMA) and the IMO Regional Presence for East Asia advocated the establishment of "Women in Maritime" in the Philippines.
