Alibata is an ancient writing system that was used in what is now the Philippines. Although it was all but exstinguished by Western colonization, variants of it are still used in parts of Mindoro and Palawan, and it is also increasingly used by Filipino youth as a way to express their identity.

  • Malaya Designs
Artist Ray Haguisan's page: O a, an artist who specializes in a technique called Pyrography "writing with fire" using a woodburning tool. My art is primarily focused on the use of the ancient Philippine script, the Baybayin, and have been an avid Baybayin practitioner and artist since 1994. Born from the frustration of observing a lack of identity in our community, I established Malaya Designs in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1997. The first and original company anywhere to offer; handcrafted wearable art using natural mediums of wood, bamboo or leather featuring the Baybayin script. Through my art, I aspire to preserve, promote, propagate and educate in the discovery of a rich Filipino culture.
