  • Banate
Banate is a beautiful coastal town in the northern part of the province of Iloilo with an obscure historical background, Having no records of history prior to 1865 when Andres Maningo became its first teniente del barrio (barrio captain), Banate was only a barrio of Barotac Nuevo, and was believed to have been founded by fishermen in the early days of the Spanish regime. Ricardo Ykalina , who kept the townǃÙs historical data during his incumbency as municipal treasurer, stated that Banate was not even considered a barrio at that early date.Historians referred to the place as ǃ?Visitaǃ? because it was visited every now and then by prominent Barotac Nuevo residents for its beautiful, sandy and wide-stretched beaches.

  • Official Online Home of San Dionisio, Iloilo
In 1877, the Spaniards came to this place. The natives who had their houses near the seashore called this LAKDAYAN. The name of the leader of the natives was DIONISIO with an unknown family name. This man was the first settler who made clearing and settlement in LAKDAYAN. Dionisio was a modest and humble fisherman. The Spaniards, considering that Dionisio was the leader and the eldest of the natives and the one who established the first settlement, changed the name of Lakdayan to San Dionisio. However, the Patron Saint indicated by the Spaniards was St. Vincent Ferrer, the townǃÙs Patron Saint, up to the present.
