#kidapawan on Dalnet. Kidapawan is a native term derived from the Manobo words "tida" meaning spring, and "pawan" meaning highland. Originally known as Tidapawan, however, the passage of time and the influx of non-native settlers from Luzon, Visayas and other areas of Mindanao influenced the change of the letter T to K making official name Kidapawan. It was created as the fourth town of the empire province of Cotabato by virtue of Executive Order No. 82 issued by then President Manuel A. Roxas on August 18, 1947.
By virtue of Republic Act No. 8500, Kidapawan was officially declared as a city last February 12, 1998. This reflects the economic growth Kidapawan City has been gaining and is mainly attributed to its rich agro-industrial potentials and as such, it is envisioned to become one of the region's major agro-industrial centers.
