However, its development is hampered by a limited land area, made worse by increasing demand for urban land, and shortage of arable or habitable land for productive activities. To circumvent these limitations, the city is focusing on strengthening its agricultural competence anchored on a modern aquaculture technology and the establishment of growth corridors, including settlement areas, outside the existing central business district.

The bangus capital of the world. The early settlers of Dagupan City is believed to have come from Flores Islands in Indonesia because of their dialect which has a strong similarity to the Pangasinan dialect. Their main occupation is fishing and salt making, a major source of income among coastal residents of today.
