La Union. Carved from the northern portion of Pangasinan, the southern end of Ilocos Sur and the eastern part of Benguet. A province composed of 19 municipalities and a city. The province was created by Superior Decreto issued by Governor-General Antonio Maria Blanco on March 2, 1850. Its founding father Governor-General Narcisco Claveria formed the province before he retired to Spain in 1849.
