Atimonan lies on the eastern coast of Quezon Province, a good 45 minute drive from the provincial capital of Lucena. It has a total land area of 166.8 has. representing 2% of the toal land area of the province and is composed of 42 barangays. It is a second class municipality with an estimated population of 54,283 as of 1995. It is bounded on the north & northwest by Mauban, on the west & southwest by Pagbilao, on the southeast by Plaridel & Padre Burgos. The town is on a rolling terrain with its highest peak at 1,400ft above sea level situated at the Quezon National Forest Park. Fishing is the most important livelihood of the people being a coastal municipality. The municipality is drained by the Atimonan Maling River.

It has a total land area of 34,276 hectares and a population of 50,992 people in 10,220 households based on the data released by the NSO on 2007 Census. It is located 144 kilometers northeast of Manila, and 136 kilometers north of Lucena City - Office of the Mayor, Velasco St., Infanta, Quezon.
